Literacy Grant Synopsis
Using the Cache Literacy Coalition we plan to promote literacy development for children and families. We plan to bring together professionals in various areas to share in literacy training opportunities and provided increased accessibility to literacy resources.
There have been three trainings that were open to the community.
At these trainings the focus is on literacy skill development for children, families and the professionals that work with them. The training will use strategies from research based literacy curriculum including S.T.E.P. and Storyquest.
Literacy materials will be given to professionals to offer to their service population. The focus is on the Health Profession. IHC Insta Care, and USU Health Center are two of the first places to receive resources from this grant. Each facility was given a bookshelf full of books for children ages 0-5. Many of the books have book marks with ideas about reading to a child and a fun activity for the child and reader to do after the book has been read. All the activities promote attachment and emergent literacy.
If you would like to request housing some of the books, or know of a great place that needs some books contact Amy Nixon.
