Child Care Connection
Quarterly Report
Fourth Quarter, 2003
By: Amy Davis Nixon. Child Care Connection Coordinator

Major Activities and Accomplishments

  • Hiring and training of new Case Manager, Trisha Champlin.
  • Relocated office up one flight. The relocation took careful collaboration from Early Head Start, Child Care Connection, and the Fiscal Office. It already feels like home.
  • Two Child Care Connection providers completed the CDA process and have sent in their applications in. They currently awaiting an interview from the Council for Professional Recognition.
  • Served 10% of the families in the Child Care Connection program with the Sub for Santa organization.
  • Case Manager, Suzie Simmons returned from Maternity Leave.

Challenges
Previous Case Manager resigned her position with two weeks of notice, because of the long hiring process and scheduling of Policy Council, it took over four weeks to hire a replacement Case Manager. Many of the families received services during this time by other staff members of Child Care Connection, however, many also were unreachable because of staff time restraints. This caused our home visit annual report to be in dire need. In a few cases the families were in need of four or more home visits to keep us in compliance. The new Case Manager has been working very hard and has visited many of the families many times and our home visit report is now in compliance.

Significant Findings and Events

  • Cache Valley's CHILD Association had their semi-annual conference. The focus was on brain development. The Child Care Connection provided a make and take training for the community child care providers. The activities were well received and also were great to promote the Child Care Connection network. Since the conference we have received many applications of providers interested in serving with us.
  • Four Child Care Connection staff members attended the UHSA conference in Salt Lake City in December. They obtained many ideas that they can implement into their positions.

Goals for Next Quarter

  1. Preparation and carrying out of Prism in March.
  2. Close out of fiscal year.
  3. Close out of Home Visit and Site Visit reports.
  4. Preparation and Carrying out of Parent Conference in March.
