Build Parent Involvement


Your Responsibilities As A Head Start Parent

  • To learn as much as possible about the program and take a major part in the decision making process.

  • To take part in the classroom as an observer, volunteer, and to contribute services in whatever way you are able.

  • To provide parent leadership by taking part in parent committees, officer elections, policy council, and other opportunities.

  • To welcome family advocates, teachers, or family educators into your home to discuss your child's development and bring trainings and information to
    you.

  • To work with teachers, staff, and other parents cooperatively.

  • To become involved in community programs, which help, improve health, education, and recreation for your family.

Your Rights As A Head Start Parent:

  • To choose whether or not you participate in Head Start activities.

  • To help develop parent activities.

  • To be welcomed into the program.

  • To be informed regularly about your child's progress.

  • To always be treated with respect and dignity.

  • To expect guidance for your child from teachers.

  • To learn about the program, including grants, policies, budgets, and staff positions available that parents may apply for.

  • To take pare in the planning and implementing of programs designed to increase your skills and knowledge.
