Things Children Learn
1. If a child is read to, he learns to love books.
2. If a child sees people are concerned with the things he does in school, he learns that school is important.
3. If a child is loved for who he is, not for what he does, he can be taught to love unconditionally.
4. If a child is treated with respect, asked to do things with "please" and "thank you," he will give others that same respect.
5. If a child is taught how to work and given the opportunity to work, he learns to be responsible and self-sufficient.
6. If a child is listened to and encouraged to voice his opinions, he learns to listen to others and respect their opinions.
7. If a child watches a parent, teacher or leader make a mistake, and then admit the mistake and learn from the mistake, he will learn it is all right to make mistakes and grow from them.
8. If a child is allowed to make choices, he learns to think.
9. If a child is allowed to make choices and experience the consequences of those choices, he learns what life really means -- responsibility.
