Early Head Start Centerbased Assistant for Logan, Utah:

  • Full-time (6 hrs/day), fixed hours, 12 months/year, $12.00/hr with benefits.
  • BS degree in Early Childhood education/development, FCHD with early childhood emphasis, or closely related field.
  • Must be willing to obtain a centerbased CDA.
  • Knowledge of infant/toddler development, developmentally appropriate practice and activities, child environments, play interaction and scaffolding, and attachment parenting.

KEY FUNCTIONS:

Under the direction of the EHS Center-based Coordinator, direct supervision may be assigned according to program needs. The EHS Center-based Assistant will ensure that enrolled children are provided with a developmentally appropriate learning environment and opportunities that will help them grow in all learning domains and support secure attachment. Each child’s individual learning style will be addressed. This position is responsible for ensuring that all Performance Standards and state licensing regulations pertaining to EHS Center-based services are fully implemented. This position will be scheduled to work 3:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

PROGRAM PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION

  • Communicate daily with the EHS Center-based Specialist and assigned staff. Communicate on a regular basis with other EHS staff and parents as necessary.
  • Ensure the implementation of performance standards, policies and procedures, and goals and objectives within EHS.   Ensure the ongoing compliance with all state and local regulations governing the care of children in center-based services.
  • Provide a safe, secure center for all enrolled children that supports exploration, interaction, and skill development.   Create an environment and care giving team that provides responsive, nurturing and respectful treatment and care to all children. Fully integrate children with disabilities into all center practices and activities.
  • Encourage and support male involvement at EHS Center.
  • Support enrolled pregnant women in transitioning child into center-based services.
  • Collaborate with Part C and School District as children with disabilities are referred, evaluated and accepted.
  • Coordinate CACFP services.
  • Regular communication with teaching staff to assess ongoing needs of children.
  • Maintain staff and family files. Track child attendance and other documentation as required. Participate in quarterly staffing’s. Maintain high level of confidentially and professionalism.
  • Attend quarterly staffing’s on CB families.
  • Obtain car seat safety training certification, educate and help parents install car seats, as directed.
  • Obtain Food Manager Certification and supervise food preparation and production at the center.  (This takes care of the food handler’s permit requirement).
  • Substitute in classrooms, as needed.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS Degree in early childhood education/development, FCHD with early childhood emphasis, or closely related field. Must be willing to obtain a center-based CDA.
  • Knowledge of infant/toddler development, developmentally appropriate practice and activities, child environments, play interaction and scaffolding, and attachment parenting.
  • Understanding of factors that put children at high risk for sub-optimal development and attachment disorders.
  • Must meet and maintain qualifications to be a center director according to Utah Child Care Licensing rules and requirements.
  • Must be willing to obtain and keep current CPR/First-aid Certification.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish speaking a plus.
  • Able to work productively and maintain composure under stressful situations.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills and the desire to help people find ways to succeed.
  • Must be aware of different multi-intelligent strengths of your staff and use this knowledge to mentor staff.
  • Integrity and strong ethical principles and an adaptability to change are required.
  • Awareness and understanding of working with lesser-income and diverse ethnic populations
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds and participate in activities on the floor and on child size furniture throughout the day.
  • Must have dependable transportation and current driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
