KEY FUNCTIONS:

Under the direction of the EHS classroom teacher the disability aide will provide individualized one-on-one support to a child identified as having a disability. The disability aide will work collaboratively to help provide seamless services and meet the cognitive and physical needs of the student. The disability aide will work closely with classroom teachers, parents, and the disability specialist to ensure the child receives the modification and accommodation needed to fully participate in program services and activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Assist in establishing and maintaining a safe, healthy, learning environment to prevent injuries, minimize hazards, and provide adequate supervision.
  • Help provide opportunities for physical and intellectual development by using developmentally appropriate equipment, activities, and incorporating differences in learning styles.
  • Assist in maintaining an open, friendly, cooperative relationship with the child’s family. Encourage family involvement and support the child’s relationship with his/her family.
  • Assist in ensuring program responsiveness to participants needs.
  • Provide individualized one-on-one support to a child.
  • Maintain a commitment to professionalism.
  • Participate in gastrostomy tube feeding and care training along with other required training.
  • Administer tube feedings hourly through a gastrostomy tube.
  • Follow a child specific health plan to help maintain safety.
  • Assist in implementing modification’s and accommodations to help meet the cognitive
    and physical needs of the child.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Basic knowledge of child development
  • Experience working with children
  • Basic knowledge of disability
  • Dependable
  • Flexible-adaptable to frequent change
  • Able to communicate with staff and parents
  • Able to get Infant/Toddler CDA
  • Able to get a food handlers permit and become certified in First Aid and CPR
  • Understanding of and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Other duties are assigned
